COMMUNICATION FAILURE Well, something seems to have happened in our Division 22 WEB site and I have had to short the news for you. The Snohomish news letter hasn’t been published since the convention, I don’t have the address of the location for the Snohomish Gala birthday party in spite of five days of requesting it and there has been a Fall District Board Meeting at Sea-Tac that was only briefly listed in the Builder and it is big enough to have a full section of registration pages in the PNW WEB site, three whole days at Sea-tac Double Tree Hotel for Board and SOAP members. Not Cheap! A Club within a Club? Marybeth did a valiant job on the Lt. Governor’s letter, but as what she wrote was the only info. on the Snohomish Birthday, I have yet to get directions to get there, or the time. When it arrives, we will announce it.

When Meadowdale High Key Club meets, it’s BEFORE classes get under way. which means it is 7:15 AM! For us Kiwanis Seniors. . .that’s Very Early! But with classes beginning with a half hour, the meetings are fast paced and ALL BUSINESS.
President Allisan arrives early and scribes a brief agenda on the board. Secretary Angela circulates an attendance sign-in sheet. Often snacks are offered...recently it was Halloween Cupcakes. Some 40 plus have been on hand at these 2nd and 4th Thursday AM sessions. In a snappy, efficient manner, projects are reviewed, questions are asked and answered and before you can say “Warriors” it’s time for class. Current projects include a Halloween UNICEF drive and assisting with the annual Kiwanis/Key Club Food Drive this November at Top Foods. It’s great to see these folks stepping up, volunteering, providing service and having fun! Way to go Key Club!!

President’s Corner I would again like to thank Harold and his daughter, Debbie Weber, for putting on an excellent program and luncheon on October 19th at the Sunrise Community in Edmonds. I am sorry for those of you who missed it. If we could bring into the club any of their new residents, we would have a great start in increasing membership. Elwin and John are working hard on the membership drive, but it takes each one of us to help by submitting names of prospects. Remember to list couples and not just one or the other spouse. The board agreed that I should ask the Edmonds Beacon to include a notice of our meeting time and date under Community Events, indicating that we welcome new members. Alvin has the November food drive days set up with Top Foods and almost all the time slots are filled. This year we would like to replace the December food drive with one around Easter. Alvin is talking to the Top Foods people so we could make this change. The weather might be a little warmer and there should be less competition. Since I have become President, I have attended more interclubs than in the past. Although some of the meetings start early, it is actually enjoyable to meet other Kiwanians and see how their clubs operate. I am sure most of you had to arise at an early hour during your working life you had to arise at an early hour during your working life. You should do it once again sometimes just to remind yourself how nice it is to be retired. I hope to see more of you participate in interclubs this year and remember, you can always get a ride. Ray Roe has completed 23 perpetual calendars (with some of your help). We are looking for a place to sell them. A $10.00 price has been set. We are checking into the Senior Center’s Christmas Bazaar this year. If anyone has other ideas, please tell Ray or me. Clayne

We haven’t done much beach patrolling since Gordy has been gone! Duane and Shirley Choo have completed their move to Lacey, Wash.. We miss them. George Deardorff made it to our Oct. 26th meeting, and it sure was nice to see him, he looked just great! |
