DON'T BE A VICTIM. Use an auto theft device such as a steering wheel lock. Everett police can provide steering wheel locks for $10.00 when 25 are ordered. For more information about locks or theft, call the Everett Police Department's crime prevention unit at 425 257-7521 or visit www.everettwa.org/police. THE BOTTOM LINE: If we can get 25 of our members to Pony-up $10 each we can get the wheel locking item. A good deal as these cost quite a bit more!
CLUB MEMBERS HELPING AT THE FOOD BANK BY STOCKING SHELVES ETC. The recent collection by the postal service brought in much needed food supplies. This put an added burden on those saintly volunteers who give freely of their time. The Tillicums became aware of the problem so have volunteered several days of time to assist in stocking shelves in proper food categories. Way to go men. Isn't this much of what we are all about? HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS SELECTED It was reported at the May meeting that the scholarship committee had made their selection and the $750 check was being mailed to the four students selected. Who are they? Ask the committee members! EDITOR'S GRIPE! So you want a newsletter! Did you ever think of giving the editor some item of interest to put in your newsletter? How about the results of a committee meeting? The scholarship committee report is a good example. I always used to get the results but the past 3 or 4 years-nothing! Anything of interest on an interclub visit? Is there something your family member has done that would be interesting? Have you done anything you feel would be of interest? Have you ever heard the expression "burn out"? Well at 82 and 15 years of putting it together, with rare instances of contribution, "burn out" is fast approaching. SILENT AUCTION If you have an item of value you would be willing to donate, contact Doris. She s putting together the silent auction program during the Salmon bar-b-que.
TWENTY BUCKS WILL DO OK! LET's DO IT! When the supervisor of the youth Center spoke to us on May 24th, Bill Blake asked how we could pay for some kid's membership who couldn't afford it. She noted it's $20 a year. My suggestion: Executive-Board June 21st.. Get O.K. to ask for donations, then turn over to Youth Club to pick out kids who can't afford the fees- $20 each kid. It may give some young person a start in the right direction. (our priority!) GARY MAXFIELD Even while heading up the food bank, Gary headed up the Tillicums for two years Because of health he gave up the food bank after many years. He is a great example giving freely of one's self". An outstanding man! GETTING MUCH OLDER While trying to figure out what to fill in this spot decided to check out our average age. We have 5 members in their 90's, 17 in their 80's, 18 in their 70's, 5 in their 60's and 3 in their 50's. The average age of the Tillicum as of June 1st, 2004 is "SEVENTY SEVEN" (77). That's three score, one decade and 7!! WOW!
PARK MAINTENANCE Our "hats are off" to the Tillicum volunteers who have taken on maintenance of the park in back of Bill Blake's home as well as some work at Hill Park. Thanks to Bill Blake and Bob Heirman who have kept these efforts moving. Let our unsung heroes be thanked.
DICTIONARY PROGRAM Rather than waiting until the end of the school term it is a better idea to make distribution early in September in order the 3rd grade pupil will have use the full year. Getting the actual number as well as the English-Spanish sets may be a little hard but we should be able to come close to the actual number needed. DISCUSSION/EXECUTIVE BOARD JUNE 21st..Give your input to Board member..
OUR MAN "DIBE" IS OFF AND RUNNING AGAIN We could have a contest for the most number of tickets sold be it for the salmon bar-b-que, spaghetti dinner or anything else, but it would just save time to just give "Dibe" whatever prize we would have to award. This energetic salesman is outstanding in promoting Tillicum fund raisers. He used to have competition with Vic Mathison & Bob Allen but today he is by himself - Thanks Dibe YOU ARE #1!
DIP into a Greek Favorite! GARLIC CUCUMBER DIP Uses less fat, sugar or salt. Includes Nutritional Analysis and Diabetic Exchanges. 1 large cucumber 3/4 cup plain yogurt 3/4 cup sour cream 3 tablespoons olive oil 4 1/2 tspns. minced-fresh dill 4 1/2 tspns red wine vinegar 3 garlic cloves minced 1/4 tspn salt Additional minced fresh dill Pita bread wedges Peel cucumber: cut in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Grate cucumber; squeeze between paper towel several times to remove the excess moisture. Place cucumber in small bowl; stir in the yogurt, sour cream, oil, dill, vinegar, garlic and salt. Refrigerate until chilled. Sprinkle with additional dill. Serve with Pita wedges. (YIELD 2 cups) NUTRITIONAL ANALYSIS: one cup serving (prepared with fat free yogurt and reduced fat sour cream calculated without pita bread) equals 94 calories. 7 g fat (2 g saturated fat) 8 mg cholesterol, 108 mg sodium, 5 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, 3 g protein, DIABETIC EXCHANGES: 1 1/2 fat, 1 vegetable.

THE TULALIP CASINO BUFFET IS A GOOD DEAL ON TUESDAY LOTS OF PARKING AND A HUGE SELECTION TO CHOOSE TWO city boys on a camping trip hid under blankets to keep from being bitten by mosquitoes. One saw some fireflies and said. "We might as well give up, they're coming at us with flashlights"!

36TH ANNUAL KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION JUNE 26-29, 2004 IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
(From last month's tabloid) SALMON BAR-B-QUE YARD SALE-SILENT AUCTION JULY 10th & 11th HILL PARK At the April 19th Executive Board Meeting discussion was if we could effectively hold all three functions on the same dates at Hill Park. It became apparent that if this is undertaken we must have the "manpower" to handle the three functions. This boils down to this. First to work at the salmon bar-b-que in the food area you must have a valid health permit. Jack King must know how many will be working in this area. So it is imperative you let him know immediately who you are! Secondly, we must know who is willing to work the yard sale. A sign up sheet will be sent around soon for this. Third, Doris Wentworth needs to know who plans to assist her with the silent auction, Even if you have physical limitations there are some tasks you will be able to do. There will be signs to place around town, flyers to distribute, tickets to sell... A job for most everyone. LET'S GET BEHIND THIS AND MAKE IT A REAL SUCCESS. THE PROCEEDS MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR YOUR CLUB TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS IN THE DISTRICT! Suggestions from the membership are welcome so let's hear what you have to say. If you think holding all three is too much, say so. Your feedback is essential.
