EDMONDS SENIOR’S EASTER FOOD DRIVE BROUGHT CASH AND FOOD Under the direction of Chairman, Al Rutledge, who put in 26 volunteer hours over the three day drive, our seniors group took in $556.53 in cash to turn over to the Edmonds Food Bank, as well as many carts of donated recommended food. Easter, being early this year, caught many people by surprise, and March was a very busy month for all. There was a Kiwanis Zone Conference in Abbotsford, St. Patrick’s Day festivities, in addition to all of the Easter Holiday church days. The day I worked, the weather was foul, almost as bad as in December, at least the daylight lasted longer. In addition to Al, 13 Kiwanis members worked 22.5 hours over the three days and 6 Key Club members worked 15 hours. We really appreciated them! One Monday morning in March, eleven Kiwanis Sr.s gathered at Howie Voit’s for a work party. They were, in addition to Howie, Ray Roe, George Frankovich, Al Rutledge, John Rutter, Clayne Leitner, Frank Suhara, Shirley Elliot, Elwin Wright, Dorothea Forrest and Buck Weaver. To find out what they were doing, turn to Page 3 of this bulletin. What is a Sticker Party?
PLEASE note, berries will cost more this year and they’ll be earlier, too. Look at schedule in this bulletin

Meadowdale Key Club Officers elected in March, 2005 President: Briea. Vice President: Tomas. Secretary: Sarah. Treasurer: Mick. Bulletin Editor: Frances
This year the Meadowdale High School Key Club decided to forgo attending the April Pacific Northwest Key Club Convention in Portland. They decided monies raised would be better used for their projects instead of the convention festivities. Several members volunteered to help on March 26th with the Lynnwood City Easter Egg Hunt. Key Club meets the first and third Thursday each month at 7 AM in Room 104 of Meadowdale High School with Elizabeth Cano as Faculty Advisor. The next meeting is April 7. Other Community Service Hours by Key Club were helping the Kiwanis Seniors Easter Holiday Food Bank Drive. Dinah did the most Key Club hours, a whopping 8 hours! Mick & Briea each volunteered two hours and Stephanie, Sharie and Abby each held down the “fort” for one hour. Their fifteen volunteer hours were very much appreciated! |

President’s Corner March has brought some very interesting meetings and I would like to thank the group of Ray Olson, Ray Rowe, Dorothea Forrest, Mike Medalia and Ben Snowdon for their work in getting the programs. Even though I live in Shoreline, it is always enjoyable to listen to the Edmonds Mayor and I really did like listening to the Citizen of the Year, Grace Fisk. We just received the letter from the berry people and they have had to raise their prices a little, so that means we have to sell a little more! We won’t start until May or so, but you could begin spreading the word about these great tasting berries. The ones you can now get at the stores are big and red, but don’t have any taste. Strawberries, raspberries and big, round blueberries. Just picked, too. We are also thinking about having a table at the Saturday farmers market in September to try to bring in new members. As a non-profit, we don’t have to pay for this table and, in addition, we could sell anything we can come up with. All ideas are welcome! Clayne

Old Salt, Sez, Need ways to get around no salt! Can’t do without Popcorn! Salt is used in commercial canning because it is cheaper than using herbs and spices used at home. Plus, when commercial soups are cooked at a high temperature for a long enough time to kill potentionally harmful bacteria, some ot rhe natural flavors evaporate. Salt is a cheap, convenient way to make up for the loss. Even chicken in many cases has it’s “bath of salt” before it goes to market. What to do ? We can always buy the basic ingredients and make our own relatively salt free meals. |

Members Misc. Special to Gordy Wilson Gordy, we are saving beach cleanup for you! Mary Lou Kantor and Dick Lunstrom read their aprons and are now officially new members. John Nutting, as a returning member, did not have to do the apron routine. Mike Medalia is feeling lots better and he is able to join us for meetings now. His last report on Gene’s health was much better. Mattie Martin will be home soon from Arizona. Hope he brings some of that good weather, too. Frank and Dianne Suhara returned recently from watching the Mariners practice in Arizona, as well as playing some golf. Dianne brought back a bad cold, and is recovering. Clayne and Sharon Leitner will be vacationing soon. John Rutter will wear the president’s cap while Clayne is absent. Several of us attended an Everett Golden K Kiwanis meeting to enjoy George Bardsley give one of his famous talks on stamps. Who should be there but Gordy Wilson! We were so glad to see him, I’m sure the Everett Kiwanis were impressed! Buck Weaver also presented a great program on airplane history when we were at the Ballard Kiwanis, their program person couldn’t make it so Buck volunteered. We are truly blessed to have these two very versatile members. |

When my kids had a fish tank, they loved to watch the neon tetras swim back and forth, sparkling in the water. The fish would “school” up and hide in the green plants. I gave a bunch of neons to the Meadowdale little kids tank so they could enjoy them too. |
