The Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis club was chartered in February 1978 under the Lynnwood Kiwanis Club sponsorship

The founding principles of Kiwanis International, working to achieve a better life quality, apply here for the residents of South Snohomish County

Rewarding experiences are enjoyed by the members of Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis. In various ways we participate in ‘building’ a better community. Participation in these community service projects enhances relationships with Kiwanis in our own club, in neighboring Kiwanis Clubs and we also become better acquainted with people who serve our community of Edmonds.

Numerous opportunities for constructive action are presented. With these come responsibilities as a member of Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis Club

We are dedicated to serving the children of the world by trying to improve their quality of family life. Each Club member is committed to live up to the six objects of Kiwanis

KIWANIS PUBLICATIONS

Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis Club publishes a monthly bulletin, the "Tidal Tales'. It contains information about projected interclubs, speakers, member's birthdays and anniversaries, Key Club, President's Corner, important dates, and other items of interest to Club members. Members also receive Kiwanis Inter­national's monthly magazine and the PNW District news- paper, "The Builder", six times per year

FUN STUFF

Working together on our various projects, we have companionship and shared experiences. Our picnic in the park each summer, often shared with other Kiwanis Cubs as well as our spouses and friends is always fun. We install new officers in October, but usually attend other Club's celebrations. We have a "birthday banquet" luncheon in February at a local Country Club or equivalent eating place. Being a little older that the average Kiwanis Club member, we don't always have the energy to follow through on big parties, but we love to go to them. At this time in our lives, Kiwanis provides the companionship, challenges and camaraderie often missed in those who are not members of Kiwanis. In our own area, we're needed!

CLUB MEETINGS

Our Edmonds Kiwanis Seniors Club meets Tuesdays at lO:AM upstairs (elevator access) in the South County Senior Center, on the Edmonds waterfront near the ferry dock. Business meetings start at 10:AM; programs at 10:30 AM; adjournment at 11:AM. Refreshments are available.

NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

Come to a meeting, visit us, we promise you won't be disappointed. When you have joined our Club, you can be involved in your choice of our projects.

ATTENDANCE

Active members are encouraged to attend our Club's regular weekly meetings. A missed meeting may be made up by attending another Kiwanis Club meeting, a Key Club meeting, or participating in another Club project. Members with perfect attendance receive special recognition at our annual "birthday" luncheon banquet.

DUES

There is a $30.00 application fee which covers membership materials (pin and name badge). Dues of $100.00 per year are paid on October l, and are prorated according to the month joined.  

FUND-RAISING

Funding these service projects occupies our time, too. Our major fund raising effort is berry sales, which come fresh from Skagit Valley fields. We take orders for the sale of pails of cleaned and sliced ripe strawberries in June, juicy raspberries in July and boxes of cleaned, whole blueberries in early August.

 For three days we work an entrance gate for the Taste of Edmonds. The Meadowdale Key Club also assists in this endeavor.

We recently started a new project, a hand made perpetual calendar. With large letters, they will be for sale near the end of August.

PROJECTS

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis annually support a wide variety of projects as follows:

Clothes for Kids - club donates money and members volunteer services.

Little Red Schoolhouse - a facility for developmentally disabled children from birth to three years, donations mainly.

Stevens Hospital - hand crocheted caps for newborns and chemotherapy patients; shawls and afghans for rehab. patients.

Meadowdale Preschool - donations as needed to this city sponsored pre-school.

Edmonds Food Bank - canvass local grocery stores for additional donations to food bank during major holidays

Edmonds Crime Watch - members volunteer to monitor designated homes of vacationers for this City Police project.

Healthy Mothers. Healthy Babies - Washington State Coalition - helping children of low income families.

YCPO (Young Children: Priority One) - includes projects assisting children birth to five years.

Children's Hospital Foundation - Donate -

Bike Helmet Project - Provide helmets to young bike riders through the schools.

Meadowdale High School Key Club - Sponsor and assist teen-age high school service dub.

Police Foundation - Assist Edmonds Night Out Against Crime Police Foundation project.

South County Senior Center - Assist in supplying items where necessary.

Sponsored Youth:- Edmonds Seniors Kiwanis proudly sponsors the Meadowdale HighSchool Key Club.  They meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month at 7:15 am (before classes) .
